Get ready to ditch those stiff suits and uncomfortable dresses on Wednesday, April 24 because the day is all about embracing the casual and cool vibes of denim. Whether you’re rocking your favorite pair of jeans, a denim jacket, or even some trendy overalls, it’s time to celebrate this versatile fabric in style.

Why are we wearing denim?

Denim Day started in the 1999 when an Italian Supreme Court ruling overturned a rape conviction because the victim wore tight jeans. Yep, you read that right. The court argued that since the jeans were tight, the victim must have helped the assailant remove them, implying consent. Outrageous, right? That’s why Denim Day became a movement to protest against victim-blaming and raise awareness about sexual assault.

How can you participate?

It’s for individuals and companies and it’s simple! Just throw on your favorite denim pieces and spread the word! Share your denim-clad selfies on social media using #DenimDay and #StopSexualViolence.

You can also strike up conversations about consent, respect, and ending sexual violence.

And if you’re feeling extra motivated, consider donating to the WCJ to help us support survivors of sexual violence. Every little helps – so $5 to wear your jeans to work is a great start!

But Denim Day isn’t just about what you wear – it’s about standing up for what’s right and making a difference in the world.

So let’s rock our denim with pride on the 25th anniversary of Denim Day, raise our voices against injustice, and work towards a future where everyone feels safe and respected.

Denim Day is WEDNESDAY, APRIL 24, 2024
